New Milton Town Council is a local authority dedicated to serving residents and supporting the community in the New Milton area. With a commitment to effective service delivery and the ongoing well-being of its constituents, the council manages a range of services and ensures compliance with government and industry standards.

The Challenge

As a long-standing support client of Rejuvenate IT, New Milton Town Council was already benefitting from reliable IT assistance. However, a new requirement-achieving PCI DSS compliance-sparked a conversation about enhancing their cyber security posture. The council was interested in significantly increasing its overall cyber resilience and pursuing both Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation. Though there weren’t any pressing security incidents, New Milton Town Council recognised the importance of proactively securing sensitive data and protecting users.

At the outset, the council was already using Microsoft 365. However, they did not have a formal system for device management or access controls based on device or location. There was also an absence of formal user awareness training, leaving the organisation with unaddressed vulnerabilities.

The Solution

After a thorough review of the council’s existing setup, Rejuvenate IT recommended upgrading their Microsoft 365 licenses from Business Standard to Business Premium. This strategic move unlocked a suite of advanced security features and made it possible to implement Microsoft Intune for device management.

With Intune, Rejuvenate IT was able to:

  • Introduce device management and monitoring across all staff and councillor devices.
  • Create and enforce conditional access policies to ensure only authorised users and devices could access council resources.
  • Implement application protection policies and establish a secure BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) environment.
  • Initiate regular user awareness training to help staff recognise and avoid cyber threats.

These enhancements collectively elevated the council’s security framework and ensured compliance with Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus standards.

“I had read an amount of information regarding Cyber Security before contacting Rejuvenate, but the minute I talked to them I knew the Council was in safe hands. It was a brand new topic for us, a small operation with limited combined IT skills, and this fairly weighty requirement, due for audit, felt huge with its ability to cause great harm if not adequately dealt with. The weight was lifted with clear, concise advice, template policy documents and support that was easy to access and very prompt with replies/resolutions. It was handled expertly with experience and the usual professionalism. Thank you.”
